Description
Okay, NOW I think I'm ready to do more actual drawings and finished pieces. Over the past couple of days I've been re-training myself to draw faster AND more accurately. Depending on complexity, I can now get a drawing out in 5-15 minutes with basic coloring and value taking about the same time if not slightly more. I still see some issues with these drawings, but they're not bad; I can work with them and improve them.
For inspiration, I've been watching the Season 4 animatic of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic that was shown at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con. What's really nice about it, besides being pony-related of course, is that the work that was shown was done by different storyboard artists. I got to see different styles and different approaches to accomplishing the same general result. I still want to draw faster, but this isn't too bad; it's at least to the point where I can jump into drawing and stop doing so many practice pieces like this. I still like drawing in this grid style though. It's a good way to practice and get ideas for potential future pieces down; so I'll still do these every so often. I've also got a general coloring method all set, values included. That still needs some work too, but I was going for a combination of speed and accuracy here, with speed taking a higher priority.
In short, this is a milestone because I've finally reached a point where I can draw and color fairly quickly, AND have the results be nicer to look at than some of my previous stuff. I've found a balance between speed and accuracy at last, minus drawing 3. I'll make it up to you Pinkie! Now to fine tune my skills by doing some actual drawings. The next piece I post won't be a practice one like this. Promise.
So, back to drawing!
